UWS Business Society Paisley
The University of West of Scotland Business Society is a student led society and was set up in 2015 by Linda Mcfadden, Business student.
The aim of the Business Society was to bridge the gap between education and career opportunities by providing other students with experiences which will help to enhance their understanding of going into the workplace, making them feel more confident and ready for graduation opportunities.
This is being achieved by carrying out continuous market research to identify what our students' needs are, then providing those activities which they feel they will benefit from.
What Linda found from the research: Students want to stand out from the crowd and recognise that taking part in business activities such as attending network events, conferences, business lunches and seminars which will allow them to develop a network of professionals and gain a better understanding of what employers are looking for as well as gaining valuable experience.
The business society has grown considerably over the last 9 months and they are working in collaboration with the SIE, bridge to business and other profeessional bodies to help their students gain some experience and knowledge of the workplace. to keep up with the heavy workload, a volunteer management team has been hired, these are Michelle Mcfadyen(assistant manager) and Fiona Abbey(social media manager), which itself creates opportunities for 2 students to gain some work experience.
